What we do with your footage.

Your footage is yours

The footage your cameras record belongs to you. We store and process it so you can watch it, search it and export it. We do not sell it, use it to train anything, or share it with anyone outside your organisation.

You decide who in your team can see it. Anyone you invite sees only your organisation's sites and cameras — the separation is enforced by the database itself, not by a setting someone can forget to tick.

When we can see your footage

Our staff can see operational information at any time: which cameras are online, whether uploads are arriving, how much storage a site is using. We need that to keep the service running.

We cannot see your footage unless we open a support session. Opening one requires a written reason, expires automatically, and appears in your account's access log with the reason, who opened it and when it ended. If we have never opened one, your access log says so.

We do not open support sessions without cause. In practice it happens when you report a problem we cannot diagnose from the outside.

How long footage is kept

Event footage is kept for the retention period in your plan — currently 365 days — counted from when it was recorded, not from when you last looked at it.

Footage you mark as preserved is exempt from that and kept until you release it. Use this when something may end up in a dispute or an insurance claim.

When the retention period ends, footage is deleted permanently. We cannot recover it afterwards, so preserve anything you may need before it expires.

Recording people on site

Cameras on a construction site record workers, visitors and sometimes passers-by. Australian law places obligations on the person operating the cameras — you — and those obligations differ by state. In New South Wales, for example, workplace surveillance generally requires written notice to employees before it starts.

Audio is stripped from every clip unless a site is specifically cleared for it. Recording conversations attracts far stricter rules than recording images under state surveillance devices legislation, and it is off by default for that reason.

You are responsible for signage, notice to workers and any consent your state requires. We will tell you what the system does; we cannot advise you on what your obligations are.

If you leave

You can export your footage at any time while your account is active. Tell us before you go and we will help you take what you need.

After an account closes we keep footage for 30 days so you can retrieve anything forgotten, then delete it. Rented cameras come back to us; purchased cameras are yours.

The minimum term is 12 months across your account, not per site. Finishing a project and moving cameras to the next one costs nothing.

What we promise, and what we don't

Cameras record to their own storage continuously, so a dropped 4G connection does not create a gap. Footage uploads when the link returns.

We do not promise the service is never unavailable. We do promise that an outage on our side does not stop your cameras recording, and that footage recorded during one arrives afterwards.

We are not a monitoring service. Nobody at SiteWatchIQ is watching your cameras, and an alert going unanswered is not something we can be responsible for.

How the footage is protected

Footage is encrypted in storage and in transit. Camera upload credentials are stored only as hashes, so they cannot be read back by us or by anyone who obtains a copy of the database.

Links to play or download a clip are short-lived and generated per request; a copied link stops working within minutes.

Access to the footage is decided by the database on every single query, using your identity, not by the application asking nicely.
